Guidance for Benefit on Two Homes Due to Unavoidable Liability

When people move from one rented property to another sometimes they have to pay rent on both homes for a limited period. In certain circumstances Housing Benefit can be paid in respect of both properties. If you have recently moved into a property and have to pay rent on your old property as well as the new property you may be entitled to benefit on two homes.

What happens once I have completed the application form?

Each case is considered on the reason for the unavoidable overlap in rentalliability for both properties, and whether the Housing Benefit Regulations permit benefit on two homes for the situation described. If we need further information to support your application we may contact you in the future.

You will be notified in writing of the decision made, if you disagree with the decision you will be notified of your appeal rights.

If you have any queries regarding your application or any other benefit matter please contact our advice line on 01536 534235
